DISPOSABLE NATURE

main project for semester topic "Urban Nature"

14:01 min, video installation, 2021

Every year more than 29 million fir trees are sold in Germany. An average of around 350,000 disused Christmas trees are picked up from the streets of Berlin. The collected trees are later used to generate energy. But is this a sustainable tradition? The answer is no. Most of the Christmas trees in this country come from huge monocultures. After more than 8 years of care, they become available in stores, just to be thrown away after a few days. My aim with this work is to draw attention to this environmentally harmful tradition and to encourage reflection about the topic.
