Imagine How You Save The World
talkIn view of the current crises and challenges, the visions for the future look bleak. But between the dystopian images of the future springs a seed of hope: Solar Punk. Out of the need to make other visions of the future conceivable, the young SciFi movement engages in future criticism and attacks our inability to think of other futures beyond apocalyptic visions or cadaverous cyberpunk clichés. The lecture gives an insight into the self-image of this movement and tells of examples of an anti-dystopian attitude towards the future.
Wenzel Mehnert is research assistant at the Berlin University of the Arts, at the Institute for Time-Based Media and Audiovisual Communication department of Prof. Ingen-Housz. Wenzel Mehnert researches, writes and teaches experimental methods of futurology at the interface of science and art and is doing his doctorate on the representation of new technologies in speculative fiction.
